Sometimes as a blogger you feel a little restraint in writing about a particular kind of phone especially if it disappoints.
Tecno S3 was released recently and has you may have guessed, its a low end smartphone with the usual specifications that may be almost irrelevant to put down without copying and pasting from that of Tecno N3.
Tecno S3 specifications are as follows;
It comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS powered by a 1.0GHz dual core Mediatek MT6572M processor with 512mb RAM to keep apps running.
Furthermore, the internal memory of this device is 4GB and 8GB of extra MicroSD card embedded and can be expanded to 32GB.
It's a dual SIM 2G/3G network smartphone and can transfer data up to 3.75G
As far as camera goes, Tecno S3 has a 2MP back camera with flash and 0.3mp front camera. It supports both video recording and video calls.
It comes with a display resolution of 320 x 480 (HVGA) in a 3.5 inch TFT screen and a battery power 1400mAh to keep the device running.
As far as connectivity is concerned, WiFi / WiFi hotspot is supported coupled with Bluetooth 3.0, GPS navigation support and a USB port. G sensor, Light sensor and proximity sensor are the usual suspects in this department and they are well represented.
Utility tools like Touch light, calculator, world clock, Alarm, Memo, Maps and calendar are pre-installed.
Finally, popular apps like Facebook, Gmail, Opera mini, Whatsapp, Google Play Store are already installed. Like all other Tecno devices, popular audio and video formats are supported but this time no Java support, E-book Reader and flash support.
The device is priced starting from N12,500 and you can get it for that price from Divine Anyi Communications computer Village Ikeja or call Adom on 08060791362
Verdict
My personal opinion is that for any Android device bagging Jelly Bean 4.2.1, a RAM of 1GB should be the least and this is where all Tecno devices running 4.2 come short and the Tecno S3 isn't excluded.
Also, we have moved passed 2010 in Nigeria to still be using camera phone of 2MP, the images would be awful. This camera build raises a red flag and perhaps only the aged ones will be getting this device.
Finally, the price for this device is a let down. I was hoping to see something in the range of N8000-N10,000 considering the screen type & quality, RAM size and camera spec.
