BlackBerry have released an update to their popular BBM app for Android and iPhone. According to Jeff Gardaway, head of product and brand marketing for BBM, BBM now includes a new Find Friends feature that allows you to discover people you know that are also using BBM and invite them to your BBM contact list, from within the app.  The Find Friends feature will detect which contacts in your smartphone’s contact list are already using BBM, and allow you to quickly send them an invite to join your BBM contact list. For those contacts that don’t yet have BBM, you can invite them to download the app with an email or SMS invite. This is not a bad development and update from BlackBerry. We told you guys of the ongoing project by BlackBerry to bring BBM to older android devices, Android Gingerbread OS devices to be precise. The reason for this can't be farfetched seeing how much users Whatsapp and Kik messenger are boasting about. Blackberry want to increase their user base too. The good news is that the BBM for Gingerbread OS devices is set to be released for February, no specific date communicated but we now have access to the leaked version of the BBM build. This BBM is slightly different for the ones you see on Android 4.0 and above and also different for the one on iPhone. The difference being that the top bar is black (blue for the higher versions). It's no news anymore that BBM is available for Android and iPhone however, some Android devices are excluded from the list that can install BBM.  One of such devices is the Tecno Phantom N9 pad and perhaps other tablets too and you can download here or click the link below.   The good news is that I was able to load BBM on Tecno Phantom N9 pad and it worked and for others that downloaded the app too.  If you are therefore keen on getting BBM on your tablet or Tecno N9 then you can download the BBM apk file from the link below and install. BlackBerry finally brought BBM to Android and iOS earlier this week , but in an effort to prevent the server problems that halted its initial debut , the Canadian company decided to implement a waiting list that allows it to control how many users gain access. But if you were late to the party and you’re stuck at the back of the line, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a quick and easy way to bypass that waiting list. Just follow the simple steps below. After installing the BBM app on your Android or iOS device, open it up and register your email address to join the queue. Now return to your home screen and force-close this app. On iOS, this can be done by double-tapping the home button and swiping the BBM app away. By now, almost everyone knows that BBM for Android and iPhones is already available for some in some parts of the world and will be available to others within days.  If you had downloaded yours on your device but don't know how to get it activated, follow the steps in this guide. It wasn't too long ago that BlackBerry released a open heartfelt letter to its customers stating why they should stick with them and not give up on BlackBerry. Part of that letter also made mention of BBM for Android and iPhone which means that commitment is still high in that area. To further buttress this, BlackBerry's CMO, Frank Boulben spoke with Reuters and said that as a matter of fact, BlackBerry Messenger will be coming to Android and iPhone for real this time in matters of days. Its not clear how many days we are talking about here especially considering that the first launch which happened 3 weeks ago was a mess. However, Frank Boulben says that he's confident that BlackBerry was able to address the issue that plagued the initial launch. What does this suggest? Well, it just means that very soon, BBM on Android and iPhone will be a reality for everyone soon enough.  

BlackBerry have started testing a new version of the BBM app for Android. This we noticed in the emails sent to beta testers.  This version of BBM for Android is more stable, the UI have been redesigned with a new welcome screen  explaining the app, notifications is now present, the persistent notification running in the status bar can now optionally be disabled and finally, the UI as a whole has received some more polish. No potential released date have been communicated to the beta testers or to anyone yet. However, it shows that BlackBerry is still true to its words that it will bring BBM to Android device and iPhone users. As soon as my friend like other 1.1 million people loaded BBM for Android on his Android phone, he knew it was what he wanted and not Whatsapp. He was able to ping his other phone for about 5 minutes before it stopped working. It was the leaked version after all and that has caused troubles for BlackBerry and consequently no BBM for Android yet.   Their is a New update from the BlackBerry company  talking about the release of BBM for both android and iPhone. Looks like the wait for BBM to totally go cross platform will take longer than anyone expected. This was the case when Andrew Bocking, Head of BBM at BlackBerry released a statement on the Inside BlackBerry Blog which explains the problems that occurred on Saturday's launch date, and steps that are currently being taken to fix it. See his statement below "Last week, an unreleased, older version of the BBM for Android app was posted on numerous file sharing sites. We were aware of an issue with this unreleased version of the BBM for Android app. This older version resulted in volumes of data traffic orders of magnitude higher than normal for each active user and impacted the system in abnormal ways. The version we were planning to release on Saturday addressed these issues, however we could not block users of the unreleased version if we went ahead with the launch. It was almost like we were been pawned by BlackBerry when a lot of us couldn't get the BlackBerry BBM app to download on the Google Play Store at the time it was supposed to be available and even hours after. However, according to BlackBerry, 1.1 million new Android users were registered for BBM within 8 hours. This is really a staggering amount considering that the app wasn't even officially launched....This actually caused the delay. According to BlackBerry, the usage of the unreleased BBM for Android version caused issues which they have attempted to address throughout the day. This post is quite long overdue to put you guys in the know on what is happening with BBM for Android which should have dropped to Google Play Store since 12noon Nigerian time. However allegedly due to some issues with the Android version which includes server problems, fake BBM names and apks surfacing on the Google Play Store, the BBM for Android suffered a major set back. It would be important to note that the iPhone version of the same app is already making its way into all Apple App Store world wide. It was first seen in Apple App World Australia and then move to other countries App Store and its already available in India. Apparently in no time, it should be released worldwide by tomorrow Nigerian time. Still, no sign of the Android version of BBM...whew! BlackBerry's BBM for Android devices and iPhone is expected to be available for download on 21st and 22nd of September from the App Store of the two supported platforms respectively. One question that have constantly being asked is that "What phones will this BBM support on Android and iPhone?" For this reason, this post was made to clarify any doubts. While there is a rumor in the air that BlackBerry would be releasing BBM for Android and iPhone for September 21st, some situations may delay the release of BBM for iPhone by one or two weeks after it gets released to Android device users. BlackBerry submitted BBM for iPhone to Apple two weeks ago but its still awaiting App Store approval according to Alex Kinsella, Senior Strategic Account Manager at BlackBerry seen from his tweet below. Usually, the average approval time for  most apps submitted to App Store is about 4 days according to Shiny Development tracker. Consequently, this delay of BBM for iPhone by Apple raises a little concern, one that needs to be quickly addressed so that Apple fans can get BBM on their devices just like their Android counterpart.
