Can This Be True...Full Android on BlackBerry Smartphone

We have seen mobile phone giants fall to the pressure and heat going on in the smartphone industry; an example is Nokia mobile devices which now runs Windows Phone OS and even released an Android smartphone just to boost sales but yet still struggling compared to the likes of iPhone and Samsung. Another example of a big company abandoning its OS for Android is about to happen again if the rumors going around becomes legit. What's the rumor you asked? Thank you for asking.  Rumor has it that BlackBerry is now considering running android OS on their devices. The Canadian company is seriously struggling to survive in a heated smartphone industry since the beginning of iPhone and the seriousness of Google to dominate the world of mobile devices. Although we saw this coming from the moment the BackBerry company decided to include and allow Android services & apps run on their devices officially, but we didn't think completely shipping a BlackBerry smartphone with android...

Blackberry Vows To Prosecute Leakers of Its products

New developments coming from the BlackBerry company, specifically from John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry is that there will be a strong crackdown on those personnel or individual that is responsible for leaking company's confidential information.   According to Chen, leaking information of products that are still at their infancy is more detrimental to the company than the good it can create. He furthermore stress the fact that he understands the enthusiasm and curiosity of fans to want to know about latest developments for BlackBerry products and software in the works but maintains that leaking these information is not good for business.  To this end, BlackBerry will therefore take legal actions against those people involved in releasing leaked BlackBerry OS updates and upcoming hardware both internally and externally.  What this means is that it may become less frequent how often we hear leaked information on BlackBerry's future intentions and activitie...

BlackBerry: New BBM Will Increase File Transfer Limit Above 6mb

I love using BBM for chatting, its very good but when it comes to sending files, i abhor BBM. One of the issues I have with it is that it has a size limit of 6mb before you can transfer file. That means, if you want to transfer a high res image of 6.5mb, you wont be able to use BBM for such transfer to your contact. Well, it looks like BlackBerry have seen the light, heard the thoughts of her users and have decided to release a new BlackBerry messenger that would increase the 6mb transfer limit as seen in the tweet below. Currently, Whatsapp, have a transfer limit of 12mb which we even think its small. Therefore, we expect that BlackBerry will beat the Whatsapp transfer limit and make BBM limit somewhere around 15-20mb. The announcement which came from Jeff Gadway is highly welcomed and we are looking forward to the next BBM update that will see the transfer size limit increased. Latest BBM Update Allows You To Find Friends Using Your Contacts

BlackBerry have released an update to their popular BBM app for Android and iPhone. According to Jeff Gardaway, head of product and brand marketing for BBM, BBM now includes a new Find Friends feature that allows you to discover people you know that are also using BBM and invite them to your BBM contact list, from within the app.  The Find Friends feature will detect which contacts in your smartphone’s contact list are already using BBM, and allow you to quickly send them an invite to join your BBM contact list. For those contacts that don’t yet have BBM, you can invite them to download the app with an email or SMS invite. This is not a bad development and update from BlackBerry. However, we are still expecting that promised BBM Channels and Voice for Android and iOS devices to drop, perhaps in the BBM 2.0 that is in the works. You can download the latest BBM update from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store as it applies to you. Like our Facebook pa...

BBM on Android Gingerbread 2.3 In The Works

BlackBerry is now making plans to release BBM for older Android devices specifically those running Android Gingerbread 2.3 on their phones. This was unveiled in a message sent to Blackberry messenger beta testers as shown in the image below.  While those running Android version 4.0 and above on their devices are happy those running Android Gingerbread 2.3 feel like an outcast and that has generated into an outcry from these set of users.  They have petitioned BlackBerry to make BBM available to Android 2.3 users and it seemed like that petition is accepted and now work have started to grant that wish. If this plan actually pulls through, the immediate result is that there would be a surge in the number of users on the BBM sever. What are your thoughts about this? Is it a welcomed development? BlackBerry Sues Company Behind Typo Keyboard Cover for iPhone

It's now a normal thing for smartphone manufacturers to sue one other over patent infringement  However, it's not yet very normal to see a big smartphone company suing a small start-up company over patent infringement. BlackBerry at this point is suing not a smartphone manufacturing company but phone accessory company.  Perhaps you have heard of Typo Keyboard Cover and if you haven't heard of it, a quick summary will suffice.  Typo Keyboard Cover is an iPhone accessories which has both a case and a physical keyboard bundled with the case to enable one type on the iPhone using the physical keyboard.  The company behind Typo Keyboard Cover is called Typo Products LLC, original formed by TV personality Ryan Seacrest and Entrepreneur Laurence Hallier.   The design of the Keyboard is a very good look alike of the Blackberry keyboard in which BlackBerry have patented just as shown in the image above.  This serious total resemblanc...

Expectations For 2014 In The Smartphone Industry

Finally, the old year 2013 is gone, it has become history, one we have to refer to in the past tense.  It didn't go without a lot of notable events either good or bad.  In 2013, there was rise and fall of individuals, products and companies. Some products stood out and some that didn't really raise eyebrows.  In January 2013, BlackBerry unveiled its BlackBerry 10 range of devices, the Z10 and Q10 which at first seemed like a flop but quickly gathered momentum and steadily rising to its success stage, Nokia also started with the Lumia series with Lumia 520 releasing in February. Samsung didn't waste time in announcing their Samsung Galaxy S4 in March while Google announced their Moto X for August and one of the most anticipated release of 2013 was the iPhone 5S which was announced in September.  Also in September, October and November, Infinix Mobility, the French company released the Infinix X570 and Infinix X520 smartphones respectively ...
