Okay, we know Infinix is really gearing up now and are working tirelessly to bring nice smartphones to its loyal customers especially in Nigeria.
That being said, a new Infinix smartphone is now with the name Infinix Alpha or X570 which comes right after the Infinix Race Max Q. One cannot really say how successful the Race Max Q was, but it could be safe to assume that it did below expectations seeing how Tecno Phantom A and A+ dominated the market scene in Nigeria and other African countries where they operate.
So, what is in this Infinix Alpha that can change the table in favour of Infinix this time around? See the specifications below to get you started. A video review also available here
Infinix Alpha is a 5.7 inch capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280, 12 mega pixel rear camera plus 5 mega pixel front camera with 1GB of RAM and a 1.2GHz Quad core processor and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 smartphone.
Furthermore, its a 2G/3G dual SIM network phone embedded with Bluetooth 4.0 technology, WiFi and WiFi hotspot capability combined with GPS and USB port for connectivity.
Infinix didn't stop there, the usual sensors common for modern smartphones are also included: G-Sensor, Light Sensor and Proximity sensors are included.
Of course, music, video and FM Radio isn't lacking and virtually common audio and video formats are supported.
The device is powered by a non-removable 2300mAh battery so as to keep things running.
Pros
Comparing it to its predecessor Race Max Q, there is a huge leap in the screen resolution from 480 x 845 to 720 x 1280. Consequently, its extremely sharp compared to the Race Max Q.
Furthermore, there is a camera upgrade from 8.0 to 12.0 mega pixel for the rear camera and from 1.2 megapixel to a whooping 5 mega pixel front camera. Skype would definitely be thrilled be this camera spec. The rear camera has a powerful flash that makes taking pictures in low light areas a breeze.
Another point which is fascinating is in the use of a corning gorilla glass 2, which is yet to be seen in any of the products made by Infinix's direct rival Tecno - Mobile.
Also, Infinix increased the operating system to Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 which is very great with excellent processor MT6589 quad core running 1.2GHz.
Finally, increasing the ROM from 4GB to 16GB when compared to Race Max Q is a plus to this device. This means extra space to save all those pictures captured with the 12 mega pixel camera.
Cons
One of the major shortcomings of this new Infinix Alpha is the RAM, its in our opinion that the RAM should have been like 2GB RAM seeing how RAM of above 1GB is becoming the norm now. It would have been a plus for Infinix considering that TECNO and Gionee don't have a 2GB RAM smartphone currently. What if these rivals come out with a 2GB RAM smartphone as their own flagship phone?
Yet another con is that this device doesn't have a MicroSD slot to increase the memory. It could have been a good thing to add since camera pictures can be as high as 5MP.
Finally, we were expecting to see NFC on this device since there is a rumor that NFC is coming to the next TECNO device. NFC will allow for many things especially sharing and connecting of soft items.
Verdict
Well seeing the pros out-beat the cons, its easy to say that what would ultimately determine the verdict is the price tag attached to this smartphone which starts from N45k - 49k depending on the store. Consequently I will give this device a 8/10 rating.

DeleteThis blog has the information on rooting the Alpha. After rooting, you should try not to install font changing apps. They could brick your phone. upgrading the OS like OTA updates isn't possible with Infinix yes. Just minor updates.

ReplyDeleteOn SIM 1 only. However, i was able to make it work on SIM 2 while trying to achieve a video call with it at one point. I couldn't redo what I did to make SIM 2 browse with 3G.

ReplyDeleteIts not the phone that is consuming data. Its the apps you have installed on your phone that is consuming data. If your device is jailbroken, you should install Droidwall to help you save on data consumption.

Check and clean your USB ports. Also, check your cable to be sure its not defective. If you have a spare, try with it and remember to remove Debugging Mode on your phone. Finally, sometimes, Plug and Play function malfunctions, you can reboot your computer, then try again.

ReplyDeleteI believe you are referring to accessing it from your pc. The cable maybe a culprit. Change it to a new usb cable and see if it solves it.

Its not a phone issue bro. First, make sure you have credit on your phone cos the activation code may charge you normal sms cost. Secondly, it could be a network issue and the code may be resent to you. If its not sent, opt for the voice activation. the voice activation will initiate a call from Viber to you and the activation code will be called out to you. I have Viber on my Infinix Alpha too and no problem like that.

hi Akin, my infinix alpha 570 is hanging...that is the start button has refused start the phone. how do i perform a hard start?? the battery was not run out at anytime and it is still charged. as a matter of fact, it was charging when it started hanging. please respond asap!
ReplyDeleteDo a hard reset by pressing the power button for 10secs it will hard reset. But for Factory reset, go to Settings and look for Backup and Reset. Do the reset and the phone will be back to factory mode. Hope u didn't install any app that is responsible for the hanging. If its rooted, beware of font changing apps

ReplyDeleteThere're no way you'll flash your X570 with Akin's rom, with the "System.image" unpacked and presented as a folder on Akin's share. You may have to get another X570 and use MTK Droid Tools to create a stock rom backup that you may use to flash your phone with.
It's unfortunate that Infinix Mobility does not offer its customers with online support like Samsung do....
That notwithstanding, I'd say Infinix X570 is the best phone you can ever have when we get down to the raw basics of a phone - functionality. I love it for its signal reception. It has a very sensitive radio with a hyper-boosting ability. I have gone with it to the remotest places of Kenya where the high-end, household-name devices like Samsung, Sony and HTC register ZERO GSM signal strength, while the X570 is full-bar and you can even enjoy EDGE connectivity...
The downside of the phone is the lack of manufacturer's support, and low data (space for system and user apps loading) storage (1GB) - in case you want to install a dozen apps you can't do without.
Maybe, the best way to deal with the memory issue is by ignoring the constant updates other than tempering with the system partition in the hopes of freeing up space.
Hi Akin. Thank you for the link to the stock rom for Infinix X570. However, looking at the system files (apps and app backup) it appears to me you might have shared a rom for Tecno Phantom A series and not the Alpha X570. I just can't get the apks with their corresponding odexes to install on my X570 however I try.
I would appreciate a getting a "System.img" file for the X570 or Phantom A+ to load using SP Flash Tools.

For those wondering about the possibility of installing the Melting Rocks III (for A+) on Infinix (tested X570), I'm pleased to say it loads like charm. I have tried it through CWM and it worked well.
The MR III (for A2 or is it A3?) doesn't work with Alpha X570. The screen remains blank despite numerous data, cache and dalvik wipes. Maybe the rom would work with it if installed as stock rom using SP Flash Tools.

Hello Ramesh, hold the power button for 15secs. This is going to completely shutdown the phone. Wait for 5mins and then power on the phone again.
DeleteAssuming no hardware damage that would cause the touchscreen to malfunction, you can go to Settings/Reset. Alternatively, power off the phone and then you hold the power button & volume down button simultaneously for 7secs. This will place the phone in recovery mode and then you can use the volume buttons to navigate and home soft key for selection.

DeleteNot all 16GB are available to store apps. Internal storage is about 13.5GB there about. Cant remember the exact figure but the full 16GB isn't available.
