Tecno Boom J7 Smartphone Specifications, Features and Price

Tecno have finally released their latest medium end smartphone known as the Tecno Boom J7 smartphone. The devices which was announced back in February came with the features that were already leaked but no word on the pricing until now. The mobile device is also designed with some key features that will appeal to quite a number of music lovers; the key sales point for the Tecno Boom J7 is hence its sound production. Lets dive into the specs and features and point out the new features of this smartphone.

Network and SIM
The Tecno Boom J7 comes with dual SIM slot; a micro SIM slot and a nano SIM slot. Both SIM slots can work simultaneous, however when it comes to network technologies, SIM one can do 2G/3G and 3.75G while the SIM slot 2 can do only 2G by default.

Display and Resolution
The display for the Tecno Boom J7 device is commendable. Its a 5.0 inch IPS display smartphone with measurements 143 x 71.9 x 93 mm and with a resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels. This means that its an HD device with 16 million colors and viewing it in outdoors situation won't be an issue.

Operating System and Processor
The Tecno Boom J7 comes with Android KitKat 4.4.2 operating system which is still the very okay as far as Android is concerned. To run this OS, a quad core MediaTek chip with processor speed of 1.3 GHz is embedded in the device. The chip also has a Mali 450 GPU in it that allows for the adequate running of High Definition videos and games.

Internal Memory and  RAM
Tecno's medium end devices are always 1GB in RAM and hence there is no abnormally here. The Tecno Boom J7 comes with 1GB RAM to keep things running as smooth as possible without lag.

Internal memory for Boom J7 is 16GB however only 11.7GB is available for use due to the OS taking some space on the device. In other to offset this reduced space, a memory card slot was provided by Tecno. This slot can take memory cards up to 32GB.

Camera
Camera quality for both Infinix and Tecno smarphones have really improved greatly. These days, 8.0 mega pixel camera does really feel like it. That being said, the Boom J7 smartphone comes with a 8.0 mega pixel back camera that takes very quality shots. There is also a flashlight for taking pictures in low light environments. The camera does face recognition, geo-tagging and smile detection.

Videos can also be recorded with the back camera but the frames per second is between 30fps - 60fps.

The Front camera is 2.0 mega pixel and the camera quality is equally good.

Battery Rating
The Tecno Boom j7 smartphone comes with a removable 2020mAh battery rating. Its a Li ion battery and can last up to 12hrs on 3G and even more on 2G. This may not be much for those that use their phones for almost everything but for the basic user, this should be enough to get them through the day before another charge is needed.

Sound Quality
One of the selling point of the Boom J7 smartphone is its enhanced audio quality. The audio quality is quite rich and music and voice clarity is very commendable.

Gesture Features
One feature we saw Tecno introduced to the Boom J7 was the ability to draw certain letters on the screen to launch certain applications. This same feature was first introduced by Infinix into their Hot Note smartphone and now Tecno Boom J7 users can enjoy the same gesture features.

Price
Tecno Boom J7 is selling for N24,000 from Slot website while Konga sells theirs for N31,000

Our Opinion
Pros:
The Tecno Boom J7 is another medium-end smartphone with a slight improvement in camera and sound quality with an addition of extended gesture features to appeal to those that love good quality android smartphone and want to replace their old smartphone for something more recent.
Cons:
The device is pricey. A price of above N23,000 is too much compared to what other competing products like Infinix and Gionee are offering. Also, the boom j7 design is tacky.

We give the Tecno Boom J7 a score of 6/1o.

  1. Sir
Correction on the gesture mode, it was first introduced by tecno cos all these features were present in my tecno h6 and it was not available in infinix hot X507, So tecno introduced it before infinix.

  2. A rating of 7.0 or 7.5 befits it. It stood out against phones like gionee and microsoft. And even made available features that were/are cut-throat to have.

This time around Tecno have released a low-end smartphone called Tecno M3 for those that are on a tight budget.  This phone comes with 8GB internal memory card, USB adapter & charger, earphone and a plastic case. Although Tecno L3 and D3 are almost the same with M3, M3 has a better camera (5mp) with more swift feel especially when browsing. L3 on the other hand has a better battery performance but much slower internet speed. As we said in one of our posts, the 3 is a designation for low-end devices and the newly released L3 and M3 is proof of that. For a device of the price, feel and usage is smooth enough. Make sure you check the speaker of your M3 since some have reported that its not too clear. Below is the specifications of the M3 low-end smartphone.
